No longer content with simple edicts against wearing white in winter or socks with sandals, the fashion police have moved on to previously untilled ground: clergy.
A chapter in Evangelishches Gottesdienstbuch--Ergaenzungsband, a liturgical worship supplement, advises German Lutheran clergy to think twice before wearing high heels, cowboy boots, gym shoes, slippers or sandals under their albs during worship.
Be warned: While athletic shoes might be acceptable at a service for confirmands, they aren't appropriate at a funeral, says Guy Rammensweig. The liturgical expert also gives advice on the proper demeanor for walking, sitting, turning from the altar, presenting the Lord's Supper, singing and giving a blessing.
