The Magazine of The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

Worth-while charities

Worth magazine ranked Lutheran Services in America — an alliance of the ELCA, the Lutheran ChurchMissouri Synod and their nearly 300 social ministry organizations — as one of 100 most efficient charitable groups.

The magazine's December issue rated environmental, relief, health, human services and arts charities on how they spend an average of $100 in donations. Worth cited LSA as spending $88 of that $100 on services, 30 cents on fund raising, $8 on administration and $4 on reserves, adding that its network provides care for 5.8 million people in the United States and the Caribbean.

Three other faith-based charities ranked among Worth's most efficient: Catholic Charities, Volunteers of America and the Salvation Army.
