Desire for Christian values in education pushes rise in Lutheran schools

Asked to choose between secular private education and public schooling for her son, James, Lynn Doto would opt for the excellent public schools in her community.

But she and her husband settled on a third option — Lutheran Church of the Cross Day School, St. Petersburg, Fla.

"The thing that made us want to spend the extra money was he could get Christian values there," said Doto. Although any school can teach ethics, "I wanted him to know where the values come from," she added.
