It's easy to start your own pool garden

  • Buy a 4- or 6-foot wading pool and drill 1-inch holes every 12 to 18 inches around the circumference, 1 to 2 inches from the base.

  • Place the pool in a prime location for sun and water accessibility.

  • Fill the pool with premium potting soil to the top edge and add a bag of sand to help with drainage. When the soil settles, there will be more room for watering. Add compost or some fertilizer and mix with a small shovel.

  • Plant your seeds according to the directions on the package and water thoroughly.

  • You can mix crops together, but rotating crops every season is best for the soil. A wading pool garden can yield up to 50 pounds of vegetables, depending on what you grow.
