The Magazine of The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

Point & click

Celebrate Advent with a global flair by learning how people around the world prepare for Christmas. If songs are your favorite part of the season, you can learn about a four-part harmony celebration at Bet-el Lutheran Church in Windhoek, Namibia; discover what you may have in common with Malagasy Lutheran carolers; or sing a carol from Palestine or Japan.

New to this site is access to some of the Vatican museums' most famous artifacts, including the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel and the Rafael rooms. The site uses advanced (if not intuitive) navigation that allows viewers to zoom in on high-resolution details of each work. Choose "Vatican museums" from the site's main page. The site is ideal for users with high-speed Internet access, but dial-up users may find the load-times tiresome.

Find a catalog of downloadable responsorial psalms, free for use by church musicians. The texts are based on the Psalter of the Book of Common Prayer and the Gradual Psalter (Church Publishing). The site features original music by Thomas Hoekstra, arrangements of choral music by Faure, Haydn and Mendelssohn and hymn adaptations. Music directors will probably wish to transcribe the handwritten .pdf files for bulletin use.
