Sexuality task force plans process for report

The ELCA Studies on Sexuality Task Force is beginning to collect study guide responses for a report with recommendations on the church and homosexuality to be sent to the 2005 Churchwide Assembly. During its Nov. 7-8 meeting, members also examined plans for developing a comprehensive social statement on human sexuality by 2007.

Congregations must submit their responses to the sexuality study by Nov. 1, 2004. A task force subgroup will prepare a report on initial responses from the "Journey Together Faithfully, Part Two" study guide before the task force's March 19-21 meeting.

The task force will develop a final draft of the report and recommendations, which by January 2005 will be sent to ELCA congregations, teaching theologians and the Conference of Bishops for review. It will also be submitted for approval to the boards of the Church in Society and Ministry divisions and the ELCA Church Council, which must act on the report before it is considered by the 2005 Churchwide Assembly.
