Late-term abortions will not be covered under the ELCA medical plan, according to a proposed plan amendment sent to the ELCA Church Council for adoption by the Board of Pensions Trustees.
The board took the action at its Feb. 8-9 meeting in Minneapolis in response to a request by the council that the medical plan--which covers pastors, their families and other church employees--be amended in accord with the church's "Social Statement on Abortion."
