Our young evangelists

ELCA schools provide some of the best outreach

The ELCA is sending out 300,000 missionaries this year--through its more than 2,000 early childhood education centers, elementary and secondary schools. Besides getting a good education, these children are bringing parents and others into the church.

"Children are natural evangelists because they're young and they're learning," says David Janisko, principal of Charlotte [N.C.] Lutheran School, which serves children in preschool through grade six. "They bring up their faith and understanding of Jesus Christ naturally because that's what they're learning in school. A number of families join the churches every year because of the school."
