Promises, promises was a popular Broadway musical many years ago. It also was the wording imposed on a two-page picture in Newsweek of thousands of men who gathered recently at a rally in Washington, D.C. The sermon even talked about the "seven promises of a Promise Keeper." The musical was a frothy bit about love. The magazine report about the rally exuded skepticism.
Perhaps that's understandable in a society where loyalty and commitment aren't adequately honored or attained. I have no interest in evaluating this men's movement. But as we move into Advent, we have a perfect opportunity to reaffirm that Christmas is God's great promise kept.
