What do we say when a couple asks, "Would you marry us in your church?" As the church of Jesus Christ, what kind of message do we proclaim when we answer such calls with, "We provide wedding services for members only!" The same conflic ts arise when we're asked to baptize children of non-members.
I've made some discoveries over my years in ministry that might lead your congregation to an openness beyond the rules that protect our integrity as the church of Jesus Christ. First and foremost, many of the people who seek to have their wedding at our church do so because their church has denied them access to its ministry — for example, a divorced Roman Catholic who chooses not to get an annulment
