Addie Butler, newly elected ELCA vice president, projects a gentle, calm, warm, soft-spoken and relaxed image. People who know the 51-year-old say she is all those things. And more.

Elected at the August Churchwide Assembly in Philadelphia, Addie is assistant dean for the division of business, science and technology at Community College of Philadelphia. Among other things, she deals with students who bring problems to the academic dean, works with faculty in developing curriculum and helps with feasibility studies for new programs.
