The Vigil of Easter liturgy held yearly on Holy Saturday in my former campus congregation always is a special occasion. Lydia's baptism made last year's service particularly memorable. Lydia's parents were married in that church. Her mother, Alison, was baptized six years earlier, also during Easter Vigil. Alison wrote her daughter a letter that will be shared with Lydia when she's older and can understand.
Alison, who is of Jewish heritage, read the letter during the liturgy. She wanted to testify to Lydia why she was taking the momentous step of bringing her Jewish daughter to baptism. Hear some of what Alison wrote:
