Witness the wind

Paramedics and prayer showed us God's lively Spirit

Wind ... tongues of fire ... speaking in other languages--the Bible's story of how the Spirit of God was given to Jesus' disciples on Pentecost is amazing, yet often dulled by familiarity. Not so for those who gathered at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Wallingford, Pa., on Pentecost 1995.

"The Spirit of God is like the wind," the pastor preached that day. "Recognize God's presence in the actions of people around you."

The sermon ended, and Mike and Josh approached the altar to affirm their baptism. Promises were made. Faith was professed. Hymns were sung, and a medical emergency occurred. Grant's grandfather was stretched out in a pew, even as Grant was preparing to receive communion for the first time.
