R.L. Peterman dies

Richard Lee Peterman, 74, stewardship leader and fund-raiser for the former Lutheran Church in America, died August 8. Born in Pottstown, Pa., Peterman graduated from the Lutheran Seminary in Philadelphia in 1955 and served congregations in Pennsylvania and New Jersey for 11 years.

Peterman held several positions in the United Lutheran Church in America and later in the LCA where he served as director of the Love Compels Action, director of Designated Gifts, director of Resource Development and director of One in Mission Appeal. He retired in 1987 after the formation of the ELCA but continued to be a presenter at stewardship gatherings for the Lutheran Laity Movement.
