Twenty-nine hours after a split decision approved full communion with three Reformed churches but not with the Episcopal Church, the ELCA Churchwide Assembly resoundingly re-committed the church to seeking full communion with the Episcopalians in two years. David Perry, Episcopal ecumenical officer, responded, "When I meet [Episcopal Presiding] Bishop Edmond Browning tonight for dinner, this action will be at the top of our feast." Perry earlier quipped that "the world's largest roller coaster" is in Philadelphia.
