Pundits say the '90s are all about a return to basic values--about turning our backs on the excesses of the '80s and scaling down. Well, the pundits are right about me. I started simplifying my life in 1990 when a divorce left me bouncing checks and paying bills late. Out of necessity I began to accept hand-me-downs, shop at garage and rummage sales, and cut back on meals out.
