It's appropriate really. Because of the ecumenical proposals facing the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, this year's Churchwide Assembly on Aug. 14-20 could be a historic event. So it's fitting that the assembly be held in Philadelphia, where Lutheranism took root in this country. The area near the City of Brotherly Love also is home to many U.S. landmarks of the Lutheran church (see page 26).
