Sally Ketchum is one of those teachers whose students remember them forever. Adults call her eccentric, but children adore her. Each day she receives e-mail messages from across the nation as former students send her funny stories or just say hello. All this devotion is for a deaf teacher who used to staple her students' books shut if she sensed their attention was waning.
Ketchum, a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Traverse City, Mich., recently published a practical guide for students and parents titled Super Student/ Happy Kid! Reviewers praised the book's strong moral overtones. This surprises Ketchum. "I thought it was about how to study and write term papers," she says.
