Minn. church to ordain lesbian pastor

'We feel it's a gospel issue'

Members of St. Paul-Reformation Lutheran Church, St. Paul, Minn., voted unanimously Dec. 3 to ordain Anita Hill, their lay minister since 1994. The ordination has been tentatively scheduled for April.

As a lesbian living in a committed relationship, Hill is ineligible for ordination in the ELCA, which requires gay and lesbian pastors to be celibate. Hill asked to be ordained following her graduation in 2000 from the United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities.
