Flooding, blizzards and ice are taking their toll in North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota.
Two Lutheran congregations — Grace, Ada, Minn., and Nora, Perley, Minn.,
were flooded. Oak Grove Lutheran High School, Fargo, N.D., moved
classes since roads to the school were under water. Across the three
states, Lutheran homes and businesses sustained damage.
The weather also slowed work at the Eastern North
Dakota Synod assembly. About 167 of the 600 delegates couldn't get to
the meeting. Power outages due to a blizzard further complicated the
crisis. Delegates passed a resolution urging churches to choose a
Sunday in April to receive an offering or start a fund-raising effort
for flood relief.
At presstime, the Lutheran Disaster Response coalition had started organizing supplies, funds and volunteers for flood relief.
