Ardelle Burton is downright giddy about being on the receiving end of Marcia Cox's New Year's resolution of a year ago.
And perhaps by this time next year, Burton will be experiencing the feast for which she now has a foretaste: an elevator that enables her to enter the church she loves but--because of muscular dystrophy--hasn't attended for 15 years.
Cox, her pastor, is doing everything she can to make sure that happens. At age 46, Cox ran her first marathon in honor of Burton and to spur the congregation's fund drive for greater accessibility. Like many churches, Augustana Lutheran, Washington, D.C., built on over the years and now boasts five levels.
