Bolivian Lutherans take a hands-on approach to building up their young church

The courtyard of Iglesia Luterana Nueva Jerusalem is crowded with women and men, and some children too, on a bright morning. But they've come not to worship but to work. And while some are members, others simply live in this fast-growing neighborhood of newcomers to LaPaz, Bolivia.

Together they're putting up a simple structure with bricks they form from the clay all around. Work has moved up to the second story, where the chapel will be. Already in use is the first floor, open to all in the community for meetings and other activities .
