My father celebrated his April 3 birthday every year by taking the whole extended family--as many as 20 of us--to the home opener of the Minnesota Twins in Minneapolis.
He chose such a party with careful intent: He could celebrate both his birth and the rebirth of the green seasons. He could pass on to his children and grandchildren the joy of baseball that his father had given to him.
