You believe a lot of lies about yourself, and Easter is a fine time to get rid of them. These lies stand between you and deeper participation in the Resurrection the church celebrates each Easter, says Beatrice Bruteau, author of The Easter Mysteries.

The big lie is that you are primarily a sinner, separated from God. The truth is that in Christ you are first, last and always a child of God. "We are alive with divine life, the life of Christ," says Bruteau, a philosopher and theologian who belongs to the Episcopal Church. "We need to quit saying, 'I can't. The divine life and its possibilities can't be real for me.' This is precisely the life Jesus is trying to share with us."
