CCM spurs resolutions to Church Council

Groups supporting and opposing Called to Common Mission, the ELCA full communion proposal with the Episcopal Church, directed resolutions to the April ELCA Church Council meeting.

The WordAlone Network constituted itself as a renewal movement within the ELCA during its March 26-29 convention at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Mahtomedi, Minn. More than a thousand people from two dozen states attended, most from the Upper Midwest. About 520 signed a declaration of the group's principles and became voting delegates.

The network seeks to "reclaim" the Lutheran Confessions and uphold the priesthood of all believers, said Roger Eigenfeld, pastor of St. Andrew and the network's president. It includes ELCA members and congregations "who because of conscience and theological integrity, can't embrace, accept, believe or participate in a required historic episcopate," its constitution says.
