Dakota ranch is for boys, girls and animals

Ashley came to Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch after years of sexual abuse. She still has nightmares about her mother's boyfriend coming into her bedroom to hurt her. Fear was a mainstay in Ashley's life from age 3 until 14, when she became a ranch resident.

At-risk youth like Ashley (last names of youth withheld for their protection) receive spiritual and clinical care at the ranches of this ELCA social ministry organization in Minot, N.D. But they also receive help that is both mysterious and wondrous from the ranch horses, dogs and cats.
