Is it too judgmental to want to know the background of people who work in the congregation with children and youth? No. It's not judgmental to be concerned about children' safety. The whole congregation shares this responsibility. Generally, no adult should work alone with youth. The Center for Youth Ministry at Wartburg Seminary, Dubuque, Iowa, suggests that those who work with children should be congregation members for a year. Pedophiles usually won't stay that long.
