Hope from the past

Rome and Istanbul give us signs

Many of us wonder what the new millennium has in store for the church. Church membership is falling behind population growth. A more irritable mood penetrates society. Tax laws are more aggressive toward the church. Are we heading into a blind alley?

Several colleagues and I have just returned from an ecumenical journey to Istanbul, Rome and Canterbury (see page 46). Two images from that trip give me hope for the future.
