A family affair

Lutherans and Moravians renew ties in full communion celebration

It felt more like a family reunion than a full communion celebration. In fact, it was both. The building and renewing of relationships warmed what was an unusually cold North Carolina.

Moravians greeted Lutherans on the morning of Jan. 27 as members of the ELCA and the Moravian Church in America gathered in Winston-Salem, N.C., to celebrate their full communion accord. The agreement became official when the 1999 ELCA Churchwide Assembly approved what both the Moravian Church's Northern and Southern provinces endorsed in 1998.
