Update: 'Mother love'

Like many who have walked the line between life and death with a loved one, Chrissy Nelson has gained a deep spiritual perspective on what's important. She was profiled in The Lutheran (as Chris Busch in "Mother love," September 1995) for her devotion to Stephen, her adopted son whose life is made fragile by cerebral palsy and other medical problems.

A member of Alleluia! Lutheran Church, Naperville, Ill., Nelson collected her experiences in a new book, Eagle Doctor: Stories of Stephen, My Child with Special Needs (Pangaea, St. Paul, Minn., 1999).

The book was termed "a hope sandwich" by Hunter Adams, whose story is chronicled in the film Patch Adams. For more information, check the publisher's Web site: http://pangaea.org.
