Travel guru Rick Steves finds support for his faith in global connection

For Steves, travel not only builds relationships but influences faith. "I'm not the kind of Christian who knows every detail of Scripture, but it's real clear to me that we're all children of God," he said. "That makes travel beautiful. It also teaches us something about proximity and suffering. If you've got a hungry brother or sister, that's true whether they're here or far away. I was fortunate to have travel tear me away from my ethnocentric upbringing — where I thought the world was a pyramid with us on top and everybody else trying to get there."
