The ELCA and the Lutheran ChurchMissouri Synod declared April 19 as a National Day of Commemoration. The declaration calls for Lutherans to:
•Remember sisters and brothers who have suffered and are suffering from disasters.
* Rejoice and give thanks for God's sustaining grace that has been revealed amid the disaster and the extraordinary efforts of God's people to respond.
* Rededicate ourselves in the name of Christ to share one another's burdens in response to the long-term needs of disaster-affected areas.
