Barb Lemmon, a registered nurse who had spent several years in other parts of the country doing volunteer work, returned to the Burlington, Vt., area to look for a job. Unfortunately Lemmon faced the same problem many Americans do when trying to escape the poverty level — she lacked transportation.
The good news for Lemmon, and for other Vermont residents, is there is now a place that helps people who need transportation. The Good News Garage, affiliated with Lutheran Social Services of New England, receives donated cars and provides them to those in need for no charge or on a sliding scale depending on the person's ability to pay.
