Every 15 seconds an act of domestic violence occurs in the United States. 6 million American women are beaten each year by their husbands or partners, higher than the number of women injured by auto accidents, muggings and rapes combined. 2 in 5 female murder victims are killed by their husbands or partners. 95 percent of all spousal assaults are committed by men. Children in homes plagued by domestic violence are physically abused or seriously neglected at a rate 15 times higher than the general population. Many of them grow up to repeat the pattern.
