Changes in the 20th century should encourage us for the 21st

What will become of our church? As we enter a new century — and even a new millennium — North American Lutherans are wondering about the prospects for their church. A few are hopeful. Many more are skeptical or pessimistic. But if the achievements of the past 100 years offer any clues, we ought to be encouraged about the future.

In at least 10 ways, the 20th century transformed the churches that united to form the ELCA. By surveying the entire list, you begin to see the Spirit's work in our repeated ability to meet new challenges.
