I visited another ELCA church last Ash Wednesday. Ashes were distributed early in the service. Later the congregation recited parts of the Affirmation of Baptism service, then came to the altar to have the ashes washed off with cloths dipped in the baptismal font. Is this appropriate? I was taught there is one baptism. This seemed like re-baptism.
