Here's what churches need to consider before renting out facilities

Churches obviously — and rightly — obtain most of their financial resources from donations. Providing for the church from our worldly goods is a central part of the Christian life. But most churches have other sources of income too. Special events, such as bake sales, food fests and rummage sales are found in every community and pose no legal problems for churches that sponsor them.

Sometimes churches inch toward the line that separates them from commercial enterprises. When this happens it can raise serious ethical problems and bring three legal issues into play.
