Palestinian Christians and churches caught in a violent cross fire

Following the Oct. 17 assassination of Israeli tourism minister Rehavam Zeevi by a radical Palestinian group, three Palestinian activists were assassinated near Bethlehem.

Israeli military troops also encircled six Palestinian-controlled cities Oct. 19, including the predominantly Christian towns of Bethlehem and Beit Jala. The two towns were caught in the cross fire during much of the fighting. The troops left Oct. 29.

Zeevi's murder didn't justify Israel's siege against Palestinian-ruled cities, said Bishop Munib Younan of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan (and Palestine).
