Liberia's war explodes, Lutherans evacuated

Bette McCrandall, an Evangelical Lutheran Church in America missionary, and the remaining international staff of Lutheran World Service were evacuated. Deanna Isaacson, another ELCA missionary, left by road for the Ivory Coast. These people "struggled with their opportunity of evacuation when their Liberian colleagues and friends didn't have that possibility of security," said Daniel Olson, ELCA Division for Global Mission.
