'A Mighty Fortress' topples

After 56 years of heralding the opening of The Protestant Hour, Martin Luther's most famous hymn, "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God," left the airwaves in October.

Listeners to the radio program instead hear synthesizers and guitars featured in a contemporary rendition of the tune known as the "Old 100th," which many will recognize as the doxology.

The program's new executive producer, Peter Wallace, who was ordained by an independent church in Dallas and has worked in advertising, made the change.

Produced cooperatively by the Episcopal Media Center, the ELCA, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the United Methodist Church, the program is carried on 140 radio stations.
