1. Approval of two historic decisions on Christian unity

The ELCA Churchwide Assembly accepted The Formula of Agreement bringing the ELCA into full communion with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), Reformed Church in America and United Church of Christ. It also voted 958-25 to adopt A Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification, which says the 16th century condemnations on justification between Lutherans and Roman Catholics no longer apply.

But the assembly narrowly rejected the Concordat of Agreement with the Episcopal Church, which would have allowed the exchanging of clergy and shared ministries. The ELCA did adopt two resolutions committing the ELCA to pursuing ties with the Episcopal Church.
