Hispanic tradition remembers the plight of Joseph and Mary

Nine months pregnant, Mary trudged with Joseph to an inn, searching in vain for decent shelter before the Christ child, God incarnate, was born.

The familiar Bible story of their cold, hard journey has been brought to life for centuries among Hispanic people in Las Posadas — The Lodging. Rich in tradition, the colorful procession is joyfully celebrated in many ELCA congregations today.
