Silence. At some point after Sept. 11, there came for each one of us the silence. No airplanes flying or victims sobbing. No newscasters reporting or leaders responding. Just the silence.
In silence people waited, standing near the ruins, holding pictures of their loved ones, waiting. In silence we wept for the dead and for our world because violence seems again to have triumphed over peace, evil over good, hatred over love.
