CCM bylaw approval concerns Episcopal leaders

The constitutional bylaw to allow synod bishops "in unusual circumstances" to provide for ordination by another ELCA pastor passed 683-330 after several attempts to amend.

The bylaw states: "For pastoral reasons in unusual circumstances, a synodical bishop may provide for the ordination by another pastor ... of an approved candidate ...." It further calls on the synod bishop to "consult with the presiding bishop as this church's chief ecumenical officer" and to "seek the advice of the synod council" before making the decision.
