Women called to 'conspire'

Nearly 600 women were called to do more than inspire — to "conspire" as church leaders — at the first ELCA Women's Leadership Roundtable, Aug. 6-8, in Indianapolis.

"The word conspiritus means to breathe with," said Barbara Lundblad, opening speaker. "If you're only inspired, you're going to burn out. We need to conspire with other people. ... When you're charged with conspiring say, 'Thank you.' "

Lundblad, a professor at Union Seminary, New York, challenged the women to set the church's agenda because "women's issues are really human issues."
