Poised for the millenium

Episcopal full communion makes ELCA premier bridge-builder

Along with declaring full communion with the Moravian Church, the Episcopal action means the ELCA is poised to enter a new millennium at the forefront of the world's ecumenical scene. No other church has official ties with such a spectrum of Christendom — Episcopal to Presbyterian to Reformed Church in America to United Church of Christ to Moravian, plus an unprecedented agreement on justification by faith between Lutherans and the Roman Catholic Church that will be signed in Germany later this month. Moreover, our full communion conversations with the United Methodist Church and the African Methodist Episcopal Church are already showing much promise.
