Like other members of Marble Lutheran Church, Elwood and Delphine Bakke come from stoic Scandinavian roots. But tears have come frequently these last months — their church that holds precious "baptized, confirmed, married" memories held its final worship service and wedding on Labor Day weekend.
But this story is more Easter than Pentecost, or even Good Friday. This rural Canby, Minn., church has been given new life at Shores of St. Andrew, an ELCA Bible camp near New London, Minn.
Sara Larson, who is from one of the eight remaining Marble families, was matchmaker. She remembered an idea hatched some 10 years ago when she was a camp counselor: Find a closing country church and move it to Shores.
