Bio: Synod associate with the bishop. Served congregations in Minnesota. Received degrees from Southwest Minnesota State University, Marshall, and Luther Seminary, St. Paul, Minn.
Replaces: William Rindy, who withdrew from the election in February.
Elected: Gerald L. Mansholt, 65, as bishop of the East-Central Synod of Wisconsin, effective July 1.
When: May 17 on the fifth ballot with 223 votes. Richard J. Bruesehoff, outreach coordinator with Portico Benefit Services, received 130 votes.
Bio: Interim bishop since January. Served as bishop of the Central States Synod and congregations in Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas. Graduate of St. John’s College, Winfield, Kan.; Concordia Senior College, Fort Wayne, Ind; and Christ Seminary-Seminex, St. Louis.
Replaces: James Justman, who resigned in January.
Elected: Patricia Lull, 61, as bishop of the St. Paul Area Synod, effective July 1.
When: May 17, on the fifth ballot with 226 votes. Lamont Koerner, interim pastor of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Stillwater, Minn., received 215 votes.
Bio: Executive director of the St. Paul Area Council of Churches. Served at Augsburg College, Minneapolis, and Luther Seminary, St. Paul, Minn. Was ELCA director for campus ministry. Served congregations in Ohio and Michigan. Graduate of the College of Wooster (Ohio) and Yale Divinity School, New Haven, Conn.
Replaces: Peter Rogness, who retired June 30.
Elected: Abraham D. Allende, 69, as bishop of the Northeastern Ohio Synod, effective Sept. 1.
When: May 17, on the fifth ballot, with 228 votes. Jonathan L. Eilert, pastor of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Loveland, Ohio, received 154 votes.
Bio: Pastor of Lutheran Church of the Covenant, Maple Heights, Ohio. Mission developer in Akron, Ohio. Earned degrees from California University of Pennsylvania and Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Columbus, Ohio.
Replaces: Elizabeth A. Eaton, who was elected ELCA presiding bishop.
Re-elected: Thomas M. Aitken, 58, to a second six-year term as bishop of the Northeastern Minnesota Synod, May 2, on the first ballot with 285 votes. Paul Svingen, interim pastor of Salem Lutheran Church, Longville, Minn., received 40 votes.
