Free schoolgirls

The National Council of Churches (which includes the ELCA) called in May for the release of more than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls. The students were kidnapped April 14 in Chibok, Nigeria, by the Boko Haram, an extremist Muslim group. Most of the girls were reported to be members of the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria. NCC President and General Secretary Jim Winkler urged U.S. and Nigerian officials “to use all available peaceful means to assure the release of these girls to their grief-stricken parents.”
