Scouts yank charter

The Boy Scouts of America revoked a troop’s charter because its sponsoring United Methodist Church stood by its openly gay scoutmaster. Last year the Boy Scouts lifted its ban on openly gay youth, but reaffirmed its ban on openly lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender adults serving as volunteers or professionals in the organization. Geoff McGRath, 49, an openly gay Eagle Scout, leads a troop in the Rainer Beach section of Seattle. Although the LGBT-inclusive congregation, Rainer Beach United Methodist, is standing by McGrath, the Boy Scouts of America revoked the charter and its affiliated Cub Scout pack for refusing to comply with the policies.
